Orcas are incredibly beautiful and wondrous creatures that exhibit a range of fascinating behaviors and characteristics. Their intelligence, acrobatics, predatory skills, and cultural diversity make them a true wonder of the ocean. I wanted to capture the power and grace of these magnificent mammals, and portray the importance of their freedom. I chose a color palette that accentuates the cool blues and greys of the frozen north, and added touches of white to represent the frothy spray of the whales' exhales. I also used a paint knife tool to create the effect of jagged rocks, peaks, and snow on the mountains. Overall, my painting is an ode to the majesty of the ocean and the astonishing creatures that inhabit it. Size: 8.5 in x 5.5 in
